Loving Wife Accused of stabbing Husband to death on a camping trip doesn't recall a thing
A woman faces charges in the stabbing death of her husband during a camping trip, a shocking incident that unfolded during what was supposed to be a weekend of enjoyment with friends at Mount Disappointment.
Ilknur Caliskan, 46, and her husband Serdar, 50, were camping with three other couples near Clonbinane when the alleged stabbing occurred on a Saturday night.
Their family is grappling with shock and disbelief over the tragedy. The couple's adult children have shared that their parents appeared "very happy" and had recently returned from a trip to Turkey just two weeks prior.
According to their lawyer, Marcus Denning, Mrs. Caliskan has no recollection of the events surrounding that fateful night and does not comprehend what transpired. Denning emphasized that the investigation into the incident is still in its early stages. The Caliskans were among friends enjoying a camping trip when this "extremely tragic event" occurred around a campfire.
Denning also highlighted that the couple had been in a loving relationship for 25 years, making the case particularly unusual. There is no evidence of intent to commit homicide, no apparent motive, and no history of violence either from or against Mrs. Caliskan.
"This is just a horrible event," Denning remarked, noting that the immediate family is standing by her and is committed to ensuring she receives the necessary treatment for her mental health. Mrs. Caliskan has been remanded and will undergo a forensic psychiatric assessment later this month to shed light on her mental health condition.
Her brother, Joseph, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Serdar and pledged unwavering support for Ilknur, emphasizing their unconditional love for each other.
During her court appearance in Shepparton Magistrates' Court, Mrs. Caliskan sobbed while her loved ones watched from the front row, wiping away their own tears. She has been remanded and is scheduled to reappear on December 19, with plans to apply for bail at a later date.
The tragic incident unfolded when emergency services responded to a remote location on Spur Rd near Clonbinane, north of Melbourne, following reports of a vehicle in the bush at 11:30 pm on Saturday. They discovered Mr. Caliskan with a fatal stab wound, and he sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Mrs. Caliskan was arrested and charged with murder on Sunday afternoon.
